The Perfect Fit for Ski Clothing – How to Find a Jacket & Pants That Really Fit

Die perfekte Passform bei Skibekleidung – So findest du Jacke & Hose, die wirklich sitzen

There's hardly anything more annoying on the slopes than ski clothing that doesn't fit properly. Whether too tight, too loose, or simply impractical – the wrong fit can significantly impair the outdoor experience. At the same time, it's one of the most underestimated factors when buying. Yet, it's clear: a well-fitting jacket or pair of pants is not only more comfortable, but it also increases functionality, heat retention, and freedom of movement – whether you're skiing, snowboarding, or winter hiking.

At Belowzero, fit is at the heart of our brand philosophy. Our clothing is made for active amateur athletes who value flexibility, comfort, and function – in every movement and in any weather. And that's exactly what this article is about: what to look out for, how to avoid bad purchases – and how we ensure the perfect wearing experience with intelligent cut designs.

What you should definitely pay attention to when buying online

When shopping online, choosing the right size is crucial for your comfort and look – especially when you have different fits to choose from. At BELOWZERO, we offer four different fits: Slim Fit, Regular Fit, Medium Fit, and Loose Fit.

  • Slim Fit is the closest-fitting cut. It fits snugly and accentuates your silhouette. This fit is particularly important for functional underwear, as sweat wicking only works optimally with direct skin contact.
  • Regular Fit is the classic, timeless fit. Neither too tight nor too loose. It is suitable for anyone who prefers a sporty, clean look.
  • Medium Fit is cut a little wider than the Regular Fit, but should not yet be understood as a wide fit. This fit is ideal for you if you prefer a more modern, slightly wider look and value flexibility.
  • Loose Fit stands for maximum freedom of movement and a relaxed, casual style. Loose Fit garments are cut wider and offer a lot of comfort – ideal for leisure, streetwear or layering.

Tip for choosing your size: If you like to wear your clothes a bit looser and more relaxed, it might make sense to order one size larger than usual for Regular Fit. However, with Loose Fit, this is usually not necessary, as it is generously cut by default.

What to look for when trying on clothes – and what to avoid

You're holding your new favorite piece in your hands and now want to make sure you've chosen the right size. Here are five essential tips:

  1. For ski outerwear: Wear base and mid-layers when trying it on – this is the only way to feel how the garment will perform in use.
  2. Test movements: Raise your arms, squat down, twist – nothing should feel tight, but it also shouldn't flap around.
  3. If you get cold easily: Avoid oversizing functional clothing. Too large often means cold spots and heat loss.
  4. If you move around a lot: Are you more of a freestyle rider who likes to hit a jump now and then? Then you need more freedom of movement and thus a size larger or a loose fit.

What really matters when it comes to ski jackets and ski pants

The fit determines how you feel outdoors – and how well your clothing performs. When choosing your ski jacket or pants, you should therefore pay attention to more than just size or appearance:

  • Jacket length: For example, if you move a lot or like to do tricks, we recommend a longer jacket that slightly covers the hips. Such as the models "Laax", "Flims", "Verbier" or "Nendaz". They protect against cold and draughts without restricting your freedom of movement.
  • Shoulder and arm area: The shoulder seam should sit at the natural shoulder edge. Sleeves can be a little longer so that they cover the wrists even when moving. Our jackets also offer integrated snow gaiters and Velcro fasteners to reliably keep snow out.
  • Torso and waist: A ski jacket should fit snugly enough to keep you warm – but loose enough so that you can easily wear mid-layers underneath. Adjustable cuffs or drawstrings at the hem provide additional protection against wind and snow.
  • Fit of the ski trousers: The trousers should not be tight in the crotch – even when you squat down. The length is ideal if they end at the ankle of the ski boot and do not ride up.
