6. The right storage location for ski clothing
Before storing, ski clothing must be freshly cleaned and completely dry to avoid dirt, odors and mold, and to ensure that the ski clothing survives the summer in perfect condition.
Not every place is suitable for storing skiwear. To protect the high-quality materials, it should be stored in a dry, cool, and dark place.
Suitable storage locations:
- A well-ventilated wardrobe
- A breathable garment bag or a cotton bag to protect against dust
- Storage boxes that can be securely closed so that mites and moths have no chance.
Unsuitable storage locations:
- Damp basements or garages, as the moisture there can cause mold.
- Attics with large temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight are unsuitable, as mold and material fatigue are a risk.
Whether you hang or fold your ski and functional clothing depends on the space available to you.
- Hanging: Ideal to avoid creases and pressure marks. If possible, use wide hangers to relieve pressure on the shoulders and prevent deformation.
-
Folding: If hanging is not possible, fold the clothing loosely and avoid tight creases. A breathable storage bag, a large fabric cover, or a storage box will protect against dust and prevent compression.
Further protective measures:
- Preventing moths and mold: A small sachet of lavender or cedarwood can help keep moths away.
- Dust protection: Breathable garment bags or cotton cloths protect against dust deposits.
- Waterproofing before the new season: Right after summer, you can re-waterproof your ski jacket and ski pants to refresh their water-repellent properties.
